About Us

As members of Hope of Haiti, we hope to serve our community through the distribution of our combined knowledge of the language, culture and history of Haiti. We hope to rid the community of the many stereotypes of Haiti by organizing events to produce higher levels of understanding and comprehension. We are helping a primary school, Ecole Frateneire Social de Fond-vin located in Pernier Haiti.  We are working with the school by advocating for resources and support   so that in the future Ecole-Frateneire can run efficiently, effectively and most importantly independently.

Ecole Fraternite Social de Fond-vin is a primary school located in Pernier, Haiti. Principal Dorce established the school in 1990 in order to take the children in the community off the streets and into the classroom. Most of the families cannot afford the cost of the school attendance fees.  Due to the fact that the attendance fees are the only source of revenue for Ecole Frateneire and with minimal support received from the government the school has suffered much financial hardship tor over ten years. It has also endured severe constructional damage. The 2012 earthquake has left the school without bathrooms, kitchen, and damaged the school building. Despite their limited resources and reduced pay, the five teachers of Ecole Frateneire work together to provide education to the 135 students. This school serves as a beacon of hope in the community due to the devotion of principal Dorce who does not turn a child away due to lack of pay.   Hope of Haiti is working with the principal to bring more aid and sustainable revenue into the school.

Hope of Haiti is an independent organization started by three students of Mount Holyoke College in 2010. While working in conjunction with  Reader to Reader Inc, Hope of Haiti works closely with Ecole Frateneire deliberating the best solutions for the school'd success. Aside from the project with Ecole, Hope of Haiti's goal is to spread awareness to surrounding communities on the pressing issues that burden Haiti's advancement.  Hope of Haiti focuses on educating fellow persons on various historically and modern political and social debates and occurrences while providing an initiative for change.  While hosting awareness events geared towards fundraising, the members of Hope of Haiti continue to research and apply to grants to assist with contruction cost as well as start up business.  Principal Dorce and Hope of Haiti decided that a business' revenue is the most secure means of securing sustainable revenue to run the school independently. Hope of Haiti believes that the future of Haiti rest in these children's' potentials.  In the future Hope of Haiti aspire to work on a mass collaboration of similar organizations and initiatives to better enhance the Haitian educational system. Ultimately Hope of Haiti s  wants to work with partners in order to ensure a means for all children to obtain FREE quality education, as the cost of an education is currently the main hindrance in these children's education.
